German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen are preparing to bid farewell to Nigeria international Victor Boniface.

German sports magazine Kicker is reporting that Boniface has no future at Werder Bremen following an unsuccessful loan spell, and will return to his parent club Bayer Leverkusen.

Allnigeriasoccer.com reported last September that his loan move to Werder Bremen included no option to buy.

There is no indication that Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen will negotiate fresh terms for the Super Eagles striker, who has missed the last 20 Bundesliga matches for the River Islanders due to fitness issues.

He last featured for Werder Bremen on December 7 and returned to the club in poor physical condition after recovering from a knee injury.

In 11 Bundesliga appearances this season, the Bayer Leverkusen loanee failed to score, marking the first time he has gone goalless at a club he has represented at professional level.

As a result of his fitness struggles and loss of form, the former Union Saint-Gilloise striker has not been called up to the national team since appearing in a friendly against Russia in June 2025.

Boniface remains under contract with Bayer Leverkusen until June 30, 2028.
