With Jose Mourinho being linked to the vacant permanent manager position at Real Madrid, club president Florentino Perez has addressed the situation.

Los Blancos are currently searching for the next man to sit in the hot seat at the Santiago Bernabeu after Alvaro Arbeloa took over as interim manager following the departure of Xabi Alonso in January.

Since then, it has been a period of turmoil for the Spanish giants, with players allegedly coming to blows with one another, the controversy surrounding Kylian Mbappe, and the fact that the side will go trophyless for the second season in a row.

As such, the club are understood to be looking for a manager who would be able to restore authority, identity, and emotional control to a dressing room that seems fractured and divided.

Now, it looks as though the club's hierarchy views Mourinho as that man, with reports suggesting that the Portuguese tactician is the front-runner and sole candidate for the vacant position.

When asked about the potential appointment, Perez claimed that it is not currently on his agenda and that the decision is not solely his to make.

“This issue is not on the agenda right now... It's not true that the president always single-handedly chooses the coach,” the club chief emphasised, per Daily Sports.

“Mourinho was with us, he raised our level of competitiveness, and thanks to that foundation we won six Champions League trophies in 10 years.”
