The talented midfielder, affectionately known as ‘Scirocco’, was sent out on loan midway through the season in a move designed to give him regular game time and exposure to more competitive senior football after spending time around the Buccaneers’ first team setup.
At the time, the decision was viewed as an important step in the player’s development rather than a setback, and judging by his performances in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, it appears to have worked exactly as planned.
Dondolo has been one of Midlands Academy’s standout performers during the second half of the campaign, contributing an impressive four goals and six assists in just 13 matches ahead of the league’s conclusion this weekend.
The numbers only tell part of the story.
According to Siya sources, the midfielder has grown significantly in confidence, maturity and tactical understanding since making the move, with his performances regularly attracting attention from those monitoring his progress.
Before the loan switch, Dondolo had been gradually climbing the ladder within the Pirates structures after featuring for the club’s ABC Motsepe League side and spending time training with the senior squad.
