Pirates Still Hunting For Statement Striker?

Orlando Pirates may have already been among the busiest clubs in the transfer market, but indications are that the Soweto giants are not done strengthening their squad just yet.

The Buccaneers have moved swiftly to reinforce several areas of the team ahead of the 2026/27 season, with a number of new faces already arriving as the club looks to build on its domestic success and make a stronger impact on the continental stage.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Pirates have already secured the services of midfielder Mthetheli Mthiyane from Stellenbosch FC, defender Sbangani Zulu from Richards Bay, and Siwelele FC duo Bohale Ngwato and Ghampani Lungu.

The club is also understood to be close to reaching agreements for highly-rated defender Neo Rapoo and winger Siyanda Ndlovu.

However, Siya sources have indicated that the Buccaneers' recruitment drive could still include the addition of a high-profile striker before the transfer window closes.

With Tshegofatso Mabasa having been allowed to move on and now available as a free agent, Pirates are understood to be assessing their options in attack despite already having players such as Evidence Makgopa and Yanela Mbuthuma available to lead the line.

According to information received by the Siya crew, the club's search is not necessarily limited to the domestic market, with overseas-based options also believed to be under consideration as Pirates seek the right profile to strengthen their frontline.

Pirates face arguably one of their most important seasons in recent years. Having finally wrestled the Betway Premiership title away from Mamelodi Sundowns, the Buccaneers will be expected to defend their crown while also competing in the CAF Champions League and domestic cup competitions.
