The transfer saga sparked a social media war between the two Madrid giants, with Los Blancos initially releasing a statement confirming that a board-approved offer had been submitted.
Atletico responded with a sharp jab, posting: "You make us laugh more than Barcelona."
Now, however, Alvarez has publicly acknowledged that a departure from the Wanda Metropolitano could be the best outcome for all parties involved.
The 26-year-old was in action for Argentina on Monday, coming off the bench in La Albiceleste's 2-0 victory over Austria in their second Group J encounter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking after the match, Alvarez admitted that discussions regarding his future have already taken place behind the scenes.
"I spoke with people at the club, with those I had to speak with, and the best thing for everyone is a transfer, and I want to fulfil my dream," the attacker said, according to Sky Sports.
"It's not the time to talk about this, but I also can't hide it. I try to be an honest person."
Despite being contracted to Atletico Madrid until 2030, Alvarez revealed that there is still no clarity on when a final decision regarding his future will be reached.
"It's not known when it will be resolved," he added.
The uncertainty comes amid growing speculation linking the former Manchester City striker with a sensational switch elsewhere, following reports of Real Madrid's interest.
It is also understood Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal are all interested in the forward.
While questions continue to swirl around his club future, Alvarez's immediate focus remains firmly on international duty.

The forward is currently part of Argentina's quest to defend the FIFA World Cup title they won in Qatar in 2022, with Lionel Scaloni's side already securing their place in the Round of 32 after back-to-back victories over Algeria and Austria.
