Rangers get harsh reality check as Danny Rohl chants echo around Hampden during Celtic win

Rangers have seen their arch rivals Celtic secure the domestic double after beating Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup final on Saturday.

Martin O’Neill has led the Hoops to their second trophy of the season with the 3-1 victory at Hampden Park on 23 May after being appointed midway through the season.

On the other hand, the Gers saw their campaign end in a disaster after losing four of their five post-split fixtures in the William Hill Premiership.

Football Insider understands that Andrew Cavenagh will make a significant investment at Ibrox after the disappointing end to the season.

Danny Rohl is being backed to succeed in Govan and Celtic fans seem to be enjoying that prospect, with the German manager’s name chanted at Hampden Park around the 10th minute.

While O’Neill has gone on to win two trophies at Parkhead, Rohl’s initial good work was washed out by the Light Blues’ suffering in the final stretch of the campaign.

During the Wilfried Nancy era, none of the Hoops’ supporters would have thought they would win the domestic double, but the Northern Irish manager’s experience and nous have made that possible.

Rohl’s immaturity has seen him get caught out tactically several times in Scotland, giving the Govan side a reality check over the 37-year-old head coach’s ability to lead them in the upcoming campaign.

Sources have told Football Insider that Steven Gerrard is a contender for the Bristol City job in the summer.

Rangers could still make an approach for the Liverpool icon, with nothing yet confirmed regarding his future.

Gerrard ended the 10-year league trophy drought at Ibrox and was the last manager to triumph in the William Hill Premier League with the Gers.

With Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises clearly stubborn with their project under Rohl, it doesn’t look like the Govan side will make a move for the Englishman anytime soon.
