Serie B side Cesena have reportedly decided to part company with coach Ashley Cole after just eight games, choosing Alessandro Diamanti to replace him.
The club had only appointed Cole on March 15 and he oversaw one win, three draws and four defeats in Serie B, the Italian equivalent of the Championship.
It was the first head coach position for the 45-year-old, who had previously been an assistant manager for the England Under-21 side, Everton, Chelsea, Birmingham City and the senior England squad.
Cesena decided to revamp everything this summer, bringing in new director of sport Andrea Mancini from Sampdoria.
The changes also go to the bench, where Sportitalia are confident that Cole will be replaced by Diamanti following a series of meetings.
This is another curious choice, because the 43-year-old’s only experience is coaching the Melbourne City Under-23 team from July 2023 to November 2025.
As a player, he was well-travelled with moves to the likes of West Ham United, Bologna, Fiorentina, Guangzhou Evergrande and Western United.
