The 41-year-old was in action for Portugal on Tuesday, netting a brace to inspire his nation to a dominant 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan.
The two-goal haul also saw Ronaldo make history, becoming the first player to score in six different FIFA World Cup tournaments.
Collecting all three points was crucial for Selecao das Quinas as they continue their push towards the knockout stages, where a long-awaited World Cup showdown against Messi's Argentina remains a possibility.
When asked about the prospect of finally facing his long-time rival on football's biggest stage, Ronaldo admitted the idea would be special.
"I don't know how to answer that," he said, per ESPN.
Despite the excitement surrounding a potential clash between two of football's greatest-ever players, Ronaldo insisted that Portugal's immediate focus remains on securing qualification.
"The most important thing was today, winning to advance, and being ready for what's next," he said.
"The main goal was to advance from the group stage, and we did it."
While Portugal have not mathematically secured their place in the Round of 32 yet, they are in an excellent position to qualify heading into their final group-stage fixture.
The Al Nassr superstar came into the match under heavy scrutiny following Portugal's goalless draw against DR Congo, where he failed to find the back of the net.
Ronaldo acknowledged the criticism directed at both himself and head coach Roberto Martinez, but made it clear that outside noise does not affect him.
"It was a very tough and difficult week, with public opinion being very harsh on all the players, especially on me and the coach [Martinez]," Ronaldo said.
"But I don't mind. I've been in this profession for 23 years now, and whenever things go well, 'Cristiano is doing great,' but when they go badly, 'Cristiano is retired, he's too old.'
"It will always be like that. But we responded well today."
