The Pharaohs picked up their first victory of their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, defeating the All Whites 3-1.
The African giants came from a goal down, with Salah playing a leading role as Egypt secured their first-ever victory at a FIFA World Cup.
The result propelled Hossam Hassan's charges to the summit of the Group G standings ahead of a massive showdown against Iran.
Despite arriving at the tournament following a relatively underwhelming, controversial season with Liverpool, the 34-year-old showed he still has plenty to offer on the biggest stage.
After providing the assist for Egypt's equaliser in their opening 1-1 draw against Belgium, Salah took things to another level against New Zealand.
By scoring and registering yet another assist, the experienced forward entered the history books as the oldest African player to both score and assist in a single World Cup match.
The achievement added to an already remarkable list of milestones, with Salah becoming Egypt's oldest-ever goalscorer and the nation's outright leading scorer in World Cup history. He also maintained his incredible record of either scoring or assisting in every World Cup appearance of his career.
Reflecting on the landmark victory, Salah admitted it was a moment that would live long in the memory of Egyptian football.
"I can't find the right words to describe this great achievement. We made history today, and everyone will remember well what we achieved in this tournament," Salah said, according to Youm7.
"I believe that what has been achieved is the best accomplishment in the history of Egyptian football in terms of participation in the World Cup, and it is an exceptional success that is credited to all the players and members of the technical staff who fought for this moment."
While delighted with the result, Salah made it clear that Egypt's attention has already turned to their decisive Group G encounter against Iran.
"We have achieved four points so far in our journey, but the next match will be extremely important to decide the top spot. Today we will celebrate this historic victory with our fans, then we will close this page completely to begin full focus and technical preparation for facing the fierce Iranian national team."
