Sassuolo are exploring a move for Fiorentina midfielder Marco Brescianini after Ismael Koné suffered a serious injury on World Cup duty with Canada that is expected to keep him sidelined until 2027, leaving new coach Alberto Aquilani significantly short of midfield options for the season ahead.
According to Fiorentinauno.com, via CalcioMercato.it, Sassuolo have identified Brescianini as the ideal replacement, a player who could find himself peripheral to Fabio Grosso’s plans at Fiorentina following the appointment of the new Viola coach this summer.
The former Milan midfielder offers both technical quality and physical presence in the centre of the park, fitting the profile Aquilani would want as he prepares for his Serie A debut as a head coach.
A loan deal with an option to purchase is understood to be the preferred structure for both clubs, a formula that would allow Sassuolo to bring in a quality replacement without a major financial commitment, while giving Fiorentina flexibility over Brescianini’s long-term future depending on how he performs under Grosso.
Koné’s injury is a significant blow for Sassuolo, who had been counting on the Canadian as a key part of the squad.
