Rangers have no intention of triggering their £8million option to buy winger Andreas Skov Olsen this summer, sources have told Football Insider.
The Wolfsburg loanee arrived at Ibrox with big expectations attached back in January, but the Gers have already decided that he has not done enough to warrant a permanent deal.
The Glasgow giants are happy to see the 26-year-old return to Germany at the end of the campaign, and sources have indicated that they intend to spend that £8m across the rest of the squad.
Skov Olsen has managed just one goal and three assists for Danny Rohl’s side, and the boss even left him as an unused substitute for the defeat to Celtic last Sunday.
Rangers want to strengthen their group across the board ahead of next season, and their option to buy Skov Olsen is seen as being far too expensive for a player who has not performed.
Breaking news on latest signings, departures, and contract news from the Ibrox boardroom.
Skov Olsen was a statement signing for Rangers when they brought him in during the winter window, but he has not been able to make a telling impact on their push for the Scottish Premiership title.
The wideman notched a stunning 36 goal contributions for Club Brugge back in the 2023-24 campaign, but there has been little sign of him rediscovering that form since moving to Ibrox.
His performances have been a major source of frustration for the supporters in recent weeks, and Rohl has left him out of some crucial games of late.
That included Sunday’s Old Firm derby, when the big-name star was left warming the bench as his team slipped to a 3-1 defeat, even when they found themselves chasing the game in the latter stages.
Rangers completed the loan deal for Skov Olsen with a prolonged stay in mind at the end of it, but they are now keen to see the back of him after a stint that simply hasn’t worked out.
Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Rangers could agree another loan move for Findlay Curtis next season, in a bid to ensure that the starlet continues to get regular football.
New attacking additions at Ibrox could push for the youngster further down the pecking order in the coming months, opening the door for another loan exit in the first part of the 2026-27 campaign.
Rangers see Curtis as a huge talent for the future and have no intention of losing him permanently, but they are keen to ensure that they don’t stunt his growth by keeping him on the bench.
The 19-year-old has shone during a loan spell for Kilmarnock in recent months, and he may yet be faced with a similar situation next term.
