SAFPU recently represented the country's footballers on the global stage, with union president Thulani "Tyson" Hlatshwayo attending the inaugural World Players Summit in Washington, D.C., and reflecting on the experience after returning home.
The former Orlando Pirates, Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United captain took to Instagram to share a series of snapshots from the event, which was held from 8 to 11 June at the AFL-CIO Headquarters.
Co-hosted by the World Players Association, the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) and the Major League Soccer Players Association (MLSPA), the summit brought together more than 100 athlete representatives from 15 countries.
The gathering focused on strengthening the recognition of athletes as workers, while encouraging collaboration between players' unions and industry leaders from across the sporting world.
Reflecting on his time in the United States, Hlatshwayo expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to engage with fellow player representatives and gain valuable insights from the international sporting community.
"A journey filled with unforgettable moments, new connections and incredible experiences. My time in the USA was a beautiful blend of exploration, learning and meaningful conversations.
"From discovering new places to connecting with inspiring people across the industry, every moment added to an unforgettable chapter," noted Tyson, who added:
"Grateful for the opportunities to network, grow and share experiences that continue to shape the journey. Here's to new destinations, new friendships and the power of connection beyond borders."
