Nigeria’s Flamingos delivered a commanding performance to defeat Guinea U17 5-0 in the first leg of their 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying tie, putting one foot firmly into the next round ahead of the return leg in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The Nigerian side made the perfect start, taking the lead just one minute into the match through Chidi Harmony.
The Flamingos captain reacted quickly to put the visitors ahead and immediately set the tone for a dominant outing.
The Nigeria U17s continued to pile pressure on Guinea and doubled their advantage early in the contest.
Chidi struck again in the 12th minute with a brilliant long-range effort, leaving the hosts stunned as Nigeria tightened their grip on the game.
Guinea struggled to cope with Nigeria’s pace, movement, and attacking intensity.
Nigeria remained relentless in attack and added a third goal in the 37th minute when Oluwakemi Adegbuyi found the back of the net.
Chidi completed her superb first-half hat-trick in the 40th minute, capping off a brilliant individual display and giving the Flamingos a deserved three-goal cushion.
The visitors headed into the break with complete control after a ruthless first-half showing.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with the Flamingos dominating possession and controlling the tempo.
Guinea attempted to respond, but Nigeria’s defence remained disciplined and organized, denying the hosts any real opportunities.
Mary Dunstan added further gloss to the emphatic scoreline in the 56th minute, finishing well to make it 5-0 and complete a memorable away victory for the Nigerian side.
Nigeria now hold a massive advantage heading into the second leg, scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026, in Ikenne, Ogun State.
With a five-goal cushion and home support behind them, the Flamingos will be confident of sealing qualification for the next stage of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
