Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has added two new players to Nigeria’s squad ahead of the forthcoming Unity Cup tournament in London.
The Malian tactician had earlier unveiled a 27-man squad for the four-nation competition as the Super Eagles prepare to defend their Unity Cup title against fellow participants Zimbabwe, India, and Jamaica.
Chelle has now handed invitations to Yira Sor of KRC Genk and Tijani Al Ameen of Shooting Stars SC.
The inclusion of the duo has increased the number of players invited for the tournament from 27 to 28.
Sor, who enjoyed an impressive campaign in Belgium this season, will have another opportunity to impress Chelle after struggling to make a major impact during Nigeria’s international friendly against Jordan in March.
The winger’s invitation is reportedly linked to the absence of highly-rated youngster Zadok Yohanna, whose Swedish club AIK are believed to have declined to release him for the competition due to club commitments.
Meanwhile, Al Ameen’s addition further strengthens the representation of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) players in the squad, with the number of home-based stars now increasing to eight.
Before the latest additions, Chelle had already invited several NPFL standouts including Tosin Oyedokun, Aderemi Adeoye, and Michael Atata from Ikorodu City.
Also included among the home-based contingent are Chibueze Oputa and Obinna Igboke of Rangers International, alongside Elias Ochobi from Rivers United.
Nigeria will be aiming to successfully defend the Unity Cup title when the tournament kicks off later this month in London, with Chelle expected to use the competition as part of preparations for upcoming 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
