Vitor Pereira faces worrying Nottingham Forest problem after what Chris Wood did vs Egypt
Chris Wood put in a highly concerning display on Monday as New Zealand lost 3-1 to Egypt, increasing fears over how effective Nottingham Forest’s front line will be this season.
The 34-year-old was unable to pull anything off in the World Cup game as the Kiwis edged closer to elimination.
New Zealand were always expected to struggle against the North African side. However, Wood’s inability to be effective in attack will be a massive concern for Nottingham Forest.
The Tricky Trees were often poor up top throughout the 2025-26 campaign, with only Morgan Gibbs-White scoring more than six goals in the Premier League.
Now, after Wood’s recent performance, Vitor Pereira may face a big issue up top that he has to fix ahead of the new season.
Wood spent the majority of the 2025-26 season on the sidelines with a knee injury.
Therefore, there had been hope that the striker could return to form over the summer and once again become a menace at the forefront of Forest’s frontline.
However, according to Fotmob on 22 June, his stats were simply dreadful against Egypt, showing that he may now be past his sell-by date.
Overall, he created just one chance, managed one shot, which was off target, completed 65 per cent of his passes, he was dispossessed twice, was caught offside three times and did not win a single ground duel.
Therefore, Pereira faces a massive problem as none of his current strikers are seemingly capable of scoring consistent goals in the Premier League.
If this is not resolved soon, Forest could soon find themselves in another relegation battle, and this time, they may not be able to avoid the drop into the second tier.
In order to combat their recent troubles up top, Forest have been linked with Santiago Castro in recent weeks.
The Bologna striker has notched back-to-back double-digit seasons with the Italian club, and has also been linked with a move to Everton.
While he has often been linked with a move to the Premier League, it seems increasingly likely that a summer move will come about over the coming months.
However, it remains to be seen if Forest are able to win the race for his signature as they look to push back up the table.
