Joe Gomez could soon be in a different kit from Liverpool colours, and West Ham United must be at the front of the queue for his signature.
The 28-year-old is currently the Reds’ longest-serving player at Anfield, but he is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract, suggesting that he could soon be playing his football elsewhere.
Although Gomez has made a total of 31 appearances in 2025-26, only six of these have been Premier League starts, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate being trusted by Arne Slot.
Liverpool desperately require new defenders once the summer transfer window opens. However, it is increasingly likely that this specific centre-half moves away from Merseyside ahead of next season.
🔄West Ham United Transfer Update🔄
Breaking news on signings, departures, and contract news from the West Ham United boardroom.
Despite some truly awful patches of form this season, the Reds look set to secure Champions League football. West Ham, on the other hand, are staring at relegation to the Championship.
That shouldn’t rule out a move for Gomez, though. The Hammers’ defence is currently made up of an exit-linked Konstantinos Mavropanos and Chelsea’s loanee, Axel Disasi.
Jean-Clair Todibo has impressed in recent weeks, but supporters are expecting the Frenchman to jump ship if Nuno Espirito Santo’s side fail to stay above water this season.
This season could have been very different. Mick Brown told Football Insider last summer that Joe Gomez was open to a move to West Ham, and now, they must reignite their quest for a deal.
Speaking out about his future, it would appear that Gomez is anything but confident about staying with the Reds for the upcoming seasons, especially with one year left on his deal.
He said, “I think anything can happen. ‘I don’t know’ is the honest answer. I’ve only got a year left, so I don’t know, but whatever is meant to be will be, I guess.
“But I’m so grateful to have had this time here at this club. I’ll always be grateful to have had 11 years at a place like this. All I can do is be thankful, and we’ll see.”
Those quotes don’t exactly scream positivity when it comes to signing a new deal. Given the club’s struggles under Slot this season, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a total squad overhaul before next term.
