Why Del Piero was spotted at Juventus training centre amid calls to return

There was excitement among Juventus supporters online when footage emerged of Alessandro Del Piero paying a visit to the club’s training facility on Thursday, but despite the calls for him to return to the club in some form of directorial role, there was a specific reason as to why the legendary former no.10 was back in Turin.

Juventus are facing a massively disappointing end to the 2025-26 season following their 2-0 defeat at home against Fiorentina last weekend. The team finds themselves in sixth place in the Serie A table, two points shy of the top four and requiring favours from multiple teams if they are to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The situation has left several members of Juve’s senior management structure with uncertain futures, especially directors Damien Comolli and Francois Modesto, and even potentially head coach Luciano Spalletti, who was only appointed midway through the 2025-26 season.

Amidst the scrutiny of the current Bianconeri leadership, there have been calls for Del Piero to return the club in some capacity. His former teammate Alessio Tacchinardi spoke to Tuttosport recently, insisting: “I don’t see any other solution than to call Alex, right now, he’s the only one who can change Juventus’s destiny.”

This opinion has been shared by plenty of supporters across social media as well.

That is why there was speculative excitement when Del Piero was spotted arriving at JMedical on Thursday, but Tuttosport have since confirmed that the visit was connected to the 30th anniversary of Juve’s 1996 Champions League win.

Del Piero was reportedly in town to film content, some of which includes current Juventus no.10 Kenan Yildiz.
