Having left sixth form with As in English Language and Business, as well as a Distinction* in Digital Media, university seemed a certainty. However, his progression in his job within the stressful world of fast food put those plans on the back burner.

Sign in to your GiveMeSport account The FIFA World Cup has always been about much more than just football. Beyond the goals, trophies and iconic moments, the tournament stands as a global celebration of culture, bringing together people from different countries, backgrounds and communities through a shared passion for the game.
Music has long played a central role in such a celebration, providing the backing track to unforgettable moments, with anthems that carry memories well past the final whistle. With the 2026 edition of the tournament here, FIFA's latest World Cup album seeks to continue that tradition, providing the soundtrack to what will be the biggest World Cup in history.
No World Cup is complete without an official album, and the 2026 edition is no different. Given that this year's World Cup features a record number of participating countries, it's no surprise that this tournament's official album is the longest to date, with 18 songs. A good album not only reflects the cultural genetics of the host countries, but also resonates with and inspires football fans worldwide.
This year's album features the return of Shakira, whose 2010 World Cup anthem "Waka Waka" stands as the most streamed FIFA World Cup song on Spotify. Future and Tyla also feature on the album with their song "Game Time", whilst YouTuber and streamer IShowSpeed has also managed an official track, after his aptly-named "World Cup" tune for the 2022 tournament amassed over 200m views on YouTube.

The tradition of official World Cup songs dates back to the 1990 tournament in Italy, when Giorgio Moroder composed "Un'estate italiana" (meaning "An Italian Summer"). Performers Gianna Nannini and Edoardo Bennato rewrote the lyrics and took the song to the top of the charts in Italy and Switzerland. An English version called "To Be Number One" was also released, performed by Giorgio Moroder Project, a group made up of signers Joe Milner, Moll Anderson and Paula Mulcahy Keane.
But whilst Italy in 1990, may have played host to the first official soundtrack, music related to the World Cup can be traced back to the 1962 tournament in Chile. "El Rock del Mundial" was a song made by Chilean jazz and rock and roll band Los Ramblers, and it quickly became a fan-favourite, becomiing the best-selling single in Chilean music history with over two million copies sold.
Shakira's "Waka Waka", which was made ahead of the 2010 South African World Cup, is often held above others as the most iconic World Cup anthem. A song performed by a Columbian, featuring the South African band Freshlyground and containing a sample from the Cameroonian makossa song "Zamina mina (Zangalewa)", Shakira's hit perfectly encompassed everything the tournament is about, unifying nations around the world. But her impact went far beyond making a best-selling track, as Shakira used her fame to give back to the global community through her position as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and her own organization, the Pies Descalzos Foundation.
Other notable artists and groups to have made an official World Cup song include Daryl Hall, Ricky Martin, Pitbull and Tears for Fears.
