Max Allegri and Milan met today to discuss the termination of his contract, but Napoli will have to wait a while longer for the final details to be resolved.
The coach was sacked the day after a home defeat to Cagliari saw them miss out on Champions League qualification.
He was dismissed in a single statement along with director of sport Igli Tare, CEO Giorgio Furlani and technical director Geoffrey Moncada.
Allegri has already lined up a new job at Napoli, where he is replacing the departing Antonio Conte, ready to sign a two-year contract.
However, before he does that, he must first terminate the existing agreement in place with Milan and that is proving to be tricky.
Although the initial fear of a protracted legal battle seems to have waned, it is also fair to say that yesterday’s reports a deal would be signed today were also too optimistic.
It is a laborious process and will require a little more patience to work out the kinks, but the various lawyers and representatives are hard at work and will continue discussions on Thursday.
