With a crowd favourite having been confirmed to have left Orlando Pirates, a former Kaizer Chiefs star has urged Amakhosi to aim for his signature as they look set for a rebuilding process under a new head coach.

Sipho ‘Lamthuthu’ Mbule will depart Pirates following a poor second half of the season that saw his minutes on the pitch dwindle shortly after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations with Bafana Bafana.

His contract expires on 30 June, with the club opting against activating the option on his deal by the deadline of 30 May.

The player’s agent, Mike Makaab, confirmed to KickOff on Wednesday that the midfielder is definitely leaving the Houghton-based outfit.

"In South Africa, we hardly have the talent of players like Sipho Mbule. I really don't know what's troubling this young man from his God-given talent," notes Benjamin Reed, speaking to this website.

"Mbule can influence a game on his own. Kaizer Chiefs need a crowd puller like Mbule. That's what we've been lacking lately as the culture of the club.

"He is the closest thing to Ace Ntsoelengoe. I believe Mbule can take Chiefs back to where they were, but he needs to change his ways. He needs Jesus Christ. That's the only thing that can help the boy.

"He needs deliverance, he needs to accept that he alone is not enough. He and Kaizer Chiefs can also work. I believe he's still got a good chance to make a comeback in the national team in the future," he added.

Mbule has also turned out for SuperSport United and Mamelodi Sundowns, followed by a loan stint at Sekhukhune United last season. Media reports have since linked him with Siwelele FC.
