Aston Villa given Leandro Trossard encouragement as Arsenal eye £35m deal

Aston Villa are reportedly considering a move for Arsenal winger Leandro Trossard this summer.

The Premier League champions have made contact with Club Brugge over a £35million deal for Christos Tzolis, while they also reportedly hold interest in Morgan Rogers and Bradley Barcola.

The Greek international's arrival will surely open the door for the 31-year-old's departure, while Gabriel Martinelli's future could also be thrown into doubt.

Villa are looking to bolster their options ahead of a return to the Champions League, with Trossard potentially able to provide cover across the front line.

The forward has shown incredible consistency since arriving at the Emirates Stadium from Brighton in 2023, providing double figures in Premier League goal contributions for the fourth consecutive season.

Any potential move will likely need to wait until after Belgium's participation in the World Cup is over, with Trossard in Rudi Garcia's squad.

Trossard arrived in the Premier League in 2019, joining Brighton in a deal worth around £18m.

Instantly, the winger looked to be up to the standard. Quite incredibly, his first season is the only one in which he has ever failed to provide at least 10 goal contributions in the Premier League.

Trossard's journey with Brighton would not end perfectly. A dispute with Roberto De Zerbi in training saw the winger demand an exit in January 2023.

Arsenal had just missed out on Mykhailo Mudryk and pivoted to the Belgian's situation - a decision that has aged remarkably well.

Trossard has scored 36 goals and provided 31 assists in 174 appearances for the Gunners, with the majority of those coming from the bench.

His goal against West Ham last month may well have won Arsenal the Premier League, and he will undoubtedly go down as a cult hero.

According to Sporx, Villa are interested in a move that would see Trossard spend the rest of his Premier League career at Villa Park, and they will want some of those moments for themselves.

Villa will have other options this summer and may well decide to go in another direction, but it is hard to argue with the guaranteed quality of Trossard.

Asked about his future last month, however, the winger appeared to bat away talk of an exit.

"At the moment, yes," Trossard said, when asked if he would remain at Arsenal beyond the World Cup. "I still have one year on my contract".

"Competition is always there," he added. "I am not afraid of that. They can bring in whoever they want. I know that I can hold my own."
