Benni McCarthy’s national team keeper to leave PSL club

The end of the season will come with departure for Kenyan goalkeeper Brian Bwire after a difficult last six months at Polokwane City.

Bwire turned down the club’s offer to extend at the end of January and since then hasn’t played.

This has meant the 25-year-old then only played national team football for Kenya this year, featuring against Grenada in March.

It has since been gathered that since mid-February, Bwire has not trained with the rest of his teammates.

He would report for training, do warm up and then not be involved in the rest of the sessions.

Bwire was initially given the attention of goalkeeper coach Dominic Ramokgopa but was then left to train alone.

This was apparently a way of punishing him for refusing to take the club’s offer to extend.

The Kenyan signed a two-year deal when he joined from Tusker FC two in July 2024.

Bwire’s representatives – who have worldwide connections – have already started pursuing other opportunities for him.

Meanwhile, Polokwane have continued training 11 days since they played their season ending match against Marumo Gallants on May 16.

After that Saturday fixture, they had a day off the following Sunday and then trained from Monday to Saturday including double sessions on Tuesday and Thursday.

Then this week, they trained once on Monday, twice on Tuesday and once on Wednesday.

It is expected that there will be a meeting on Thursday. They are expected to then report back mid-June for the start of their pre-season training.
