Mabedi took charge of the Flames from April 2023 until he was dismissed in October 2024, one month short of his two-year deal.
According to Pan-Africa Football, the Industrial Relations Court ruled that Mabedi should receive $54 200 (R886 000) from the Malawi Football Association (FAM), despite initially ruling he should receive up to $519,000 (R8.4 million).
FAM appealed the decision, which led to the reduced compensation, with the association's lawyer ruling that it was a fair decision.
"It is a fair decision; however, we would have loved it if the amount had been reduced further," the lawyer added.
Mabedi, who now works as an assistant coach at Tanzanian side Young Africans (Yanga), went into coaching following the conclusion of his player career.
He spent the bulk of his playing days at Kaizer Chiefs from 1998 to 2006, captaining the side before leaving to join Moroka Swallows.
