Chiefs Starlet's Future Remains Undecided

Kaizer Chiefs are expected to make a decision on the future of defender Xolani Cossa following the relegation of his loan club, Black Lions, from the Botswana FNB Premiership.

A source close to Naturena has informed Soccer Laduma that the 22-year-old is set to return to Amakhosi at the end of his loan spell, with the club yet to determine whether he will remain part of the squad for next season or seek another temporary move.

Black Lions endured a difficult campaign and were relegated after finishing 14th in the 16-team league table. With the Botswana outfit dropping out of the top flight, indications are that Cossa is unlikely to return to the club.

“The club he was playing for in Botswana, Black Lions, have been relegated from the FNB Premiership after finishing 14th in the 16-team league. The defender is now expected to return to Chiefs, who are believed to decide on his future before the team regroups for preseason and travels to Europe for their training camp,” the source told Soccer Laduma.

“At the moment there is no decision on his future yet. It’s believed he won’t be returning to Black Lions because they were relegated and it would no longer serve Chiefs’ player development plans.”

Cossa was part of Kaizer Chiefs’ preseason tour to Holland last year, where he travelled with the club as one of the DDC prospects hoping to impress the technical team.

Following the tour, the promising defender secured a loan move to Black Lions, where he worked under experienced South African coach Owen Da Gama before the latter parted ways with the club in December 2025.

Despite the team’s struggles throughout the season and eventual relegation, Cossa emerged as one of the club’s standout performers. The young defender became a regular feature in the side and was occasionally entrusted with the captain’s armband, underlining his growing influence and leadership qualities.
