Concerning review for Chiefs returnee
For all the planning that will include further signings and new arrivals ahead of the 2026/27 season at Kaizer Chiefs, there will be worries for one of their returnees.
The review to accompany Happy Mashiane will not make for encouraging reading based on what has happened this season.
With the season over, Mashiane now reverts to his parent club – Chiefs – after a difficult loan at Siwelele FC.

He was on the bench just twice at Siwelele and then played only once – a 45-minute run against Marumo Gallants eight months ago.
Not the best return for the 28-year-old, who moved out on loan in search of game-time after the struggles he faced in the 2024/25 season when he played nine games, with none lasting 90 minutes.
This now means that in the last five years, Mashiane has put in a full shift just once.
That 90-minute run came against Moroka Swallows in March 2024 while Cavin Johnson was the caretaker boss.
The culmination of all these game-time factors has meant that Mashiane’s value has justifiably dropped.
In five years, he has played only about 1400 minutes and will be at a career crossroads with his age moving closer to 30.
He will return to Chiefs with the club having Bradley Cross, Paseka Mako, and Nkanyiso Shinga as left-back options.

Aden McCarthy can also play at left-back, which is considered Mashiane’s primary position.
The Soweto giants have to find a lasting solution to the conundrum faced by Mashiane during this off-season break.
