Through a statement on their official website, Premier League giants Liverpool have announced their new intake of academy scholars for the 2026-2027 season, with three players of Nigerian descent part of the group.

As per Premier League rules, all players in their U17 year are required to start the 2026-2027 season on a scholarship agreement, before they are permitted to sign a first professional football contract on or after their 17th birthday.

Among the new intakes are Joshua Abe, Shadrach Ekiugbo (pictured) and Daniel Majekodunmi.

The aforementioned players have been fully promoted to Liverpool's U18 squad for the upcoming season.

In his final year as a schoolboy, Abe impressed with a return of eight goals and three assists in 10 appearances in the U18 Premier League, while also making his debut in the UEFA Youth League.

Despite reported interest from Chelsea, Manchester City, and Manchester United, the 15-year-old has ended speculation over his future by committing to the Anfield club with a scholarship agreement.

On the international stage, Abe featured prominently for England U16s, scoring four goals in eight appearances.

Ekiugbo, also an England U16 international, has likewise gained valuable experience at U18 level, making his debut in the U18 Premier League against Nottingham Forest last November.

The three Nigeria-eligible players were accompanied by their parents and family members for the occasion, where they were also presented with special commemorative caps by Sir Kenny in recognition of their achievement.
