Sinoxolo Kwayiba's move to Stellenbosch FC has now been completed, with details of the midfielder's contract at the Winelands club coming to light.

As previously reported by the Siya crew, Kwayiba has been expected to join Stellenbosch ahead of the new season after an impressive return spell at Chippa United.

The 26-year-old has signed a two-year contract with Stellies, with the agreement also including an option that could keep him at the club for a further two years.

A source close to the situation has indicated that Kwayiba's arrival was driven largely by the wishes of head coach Gavin Hunt, who is believed to have tracked the player's progress for some time.

“The contract is for two years with an option for another two years. It’s a signing that the coach wanted. Gavin Hunt has liked the player for a long time and has been following him closely,” the source told Soccer Laduma.

The source added that Kwayiba’s attributes are viewed as a strong fit for the style of football Hunt wants to implement at Stellenbosch.

“His style of play suits the coach’s philosophy. He is not the type of player who needs a lot of touches on the ball or dictates the game like a Tito (Patrick Maswanganyi) or Themba Zwane. He is different. With Gavin Hunt’s quick-transition style of football, there is a belief that he can fit in well and make an impact.”

The source further explained that the decision to join Stellies was not primarily influenced by financial considerations, but rather by the player’s football prospects under Hunt.

“The coach wanted the player, and the decision was not based on who was offering the most money. It was about the coach’s interest in him and the opportunities he believes he will get at the club,” the source added.

Kwayiba earned widespread praise during the second half of the past season after returning to Chippa, where he played a key role in helping the Gqeberha-based side steer clear of relegation trouble.

In 15 league matches after his return to the Chilli Boys, the former Orlando Pirates midfielder scored six goals and registered one assist, emerging as one of the club’s standout performers during the run-in.

His form attracted interest from several quarters, but Stellies ultimately secured his signature as Hunt looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
