Niclas Fullkrug is set to return to West Ham after a disappointing six-month loan spell at Milan in which the German striker managed just one goal, and the 33-year-old now faces an uncertain future with the Hammers having been relegated to the Championship, leaving him available for approximately €3 million.
Two Serie A clubs have registered interest. Venezia have been in contact with Fullkrug’s agency Roof for several weeks, attempting to convince the former Werder Bremen forward to stay in Italy.
According to Il Tirreno, via CalcioMercato, Fiorentina are also considering a move, with the Viola potentially in the market for a striker should Roberto Piccoli depart this summer.
For Fiorentina, Fullkrug represents an experienced, physically imposing option at a remarkably modest price given his profile.
His time at Milan was underwhelming, but his record before the move, particularly his performances for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, demonstrated he is capable of performing at the highest level when fit and in form.
New coach Fabio Grosso will need to decide whether the German fits his attacking plans before any approach is formalised.
West Ham’s relegation ensures they will be willing to listen to offers, making the economics of any deal straightforward for interested parties.
