Everton risk watching Iliman Ndiaye's transfer value continue to diminish if they cannot tie him down to a new contract.
That is according to former Toffees chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the winger is continuing to stall the discussions on Merseyside.
The 26-year-old has become an increasingly important figure at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and ended the 2025-26 campaign with six goals and three assists to his name.
Wyness has emphasised that Everton want to prove that they are not a selling club, but he feels that their hand may eventually be forced on Ndiaye.
The Senegal international is currently attracting serious interest from both Manchester City and Arsenal, while he is about to showcase his talent at the World Cup.
Talks over a new contract have failed to progress in recent weeks, and Wyness feels that there is cause for concern behind the scenes.
Everton’s former chief Wyness - who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs - believes that Everton could lose the chance to net a truly huge fee for Ndiaye.
The wideman is still under contract until the summer of 2029, but the Scottish businessman is clear that his value will only decrease from here if his future is not resolved.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, he outlined the need for his former club to show stability by keeping hold of their star.
"Everton are trying to show that they've stabilised and that things are moving forward, and they're not really a selling club. At this stage, every day that he doesn't sign that contract, his value starts to diminish," Wyness said.
"Ndiaye is certainly part of the renewal and the excitement that got the fans happy last season. There were some outstanding performances from him, and he scored some key goals.
"Having him and (Jack) Grealish on both flanks made it a very strong situation for the club.
"Now the other problem that Everton could face is if he has an outstanding World Cup, and there's every chance he can come on to that stage and do it. Then there'll be a lot of suitors, and he'll think about moving on to Manchester City or another top club."
Football Insider revealed last weekend that there is no "massive panic" at Everton, despite the growing level of interest in Ndiaye.
David Moyes and Co. are relaxed about the future of their star man, and have already decided that it will take a "huge fee" for them to even consider a sale this summer.
They are confident of being able to keep hold of the former Sheffield United man for at least another season.
Moyes wants to kick on towards European qualification next term, and Ndiaye is seen as a player who is key to those hopes.
