Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has described his assist in Portugal's 2-1 victory over Nigeria as a natural part of his game, insisting his focus remains on helping the team at both ends of the pitch.

Dalot set up Pedro Neto for Portugal's opening goal in the 23rd minute as the Seleção edged the Super Eagles in an international friendly on Wednesday.

Although naturally a right-back, the Manchester United star was deployed on the left side of Portugal's backline during the first half of the friendly against the Super Eagles.

Dalot said he was pleased to contribute but stressed that adapting to the manager's demands remains the priority for every player in the squad.

"Assists? It's part of my game to help the team as much as possible, offensively and defensively," Dalot was quoted as saying by A Bola.

The 27-year-old explained that the recent matches against Chile and Nigeria have provided an opportunity for players to understand their roles better and impress the coaching staff ahead of future assignments.

"These two games serve that purpose, to try and adapt as much as possible to what the manager asks for.

"Most of the players played 45 minutes, now it's time to give the manager some good headaches. I'm sure everyone will be ready to help."

Portugal's preparations are now complete, with Roberto Martínez's side turning their attention to the 2026 Fifa World Cup Group K opener against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Houston, Texas on June 17.
