Juventus have already agreed personal terms with Emiliano Martinez on a three-year contract worth €5 million net per season, with Luciano Spalletti keen to welcome the Argentine goalkeeper once the World Cup concludes. However, formal talks with Aston Villa have yet to properly begin.

According to Tuttosport, outgoing CEO Damien Comolli never directly contacted Villa, instead attempting to fast-track an agreement solely with the player.

New CEO Giovanni Carnevali will now take charge of negotiations from this point.

Villa have privately accepted that Martinez’s time at the club has run its course, they have already approached Parma over Zion Suzuki as a replacement.

The two clubs’ ownership groups enjoy a good relationship, but neither wants to lose out financially. Juventus know a compensation fee will be required, while Villa are aware that demanding €20 million for a goalkeeper turning 34 in three months is unrealistic.

A middle ground is expected once the two boards formally reconnect, with Carnevali due to begin work imminently.

Martinez himself is relaxed about the timeline, focused on the World Cup rather than the negotiations.
