After securing their Premier League status during the 2025/26 season, the summer transfer window is an opportunity for Leeds to continue heading in the right direction, bringing in reinforcements.
Many expected Daniel Farke's side to suffer relegation back down to the Championship, but they defied expectations by avoiding the drop. Leeds have now proven they have a squad capable of remaining in the Premier League, so they can now start to add new additions to take them to the next level.
The Whites need to strengthen to improve in their second season back in the Premier League
According to Daily Mail journalist Simon Jones, Leeds are now weighing up a move to sign Southampton midfielder Shea Charles ahead of the summer transfer window.
It's claimed that Charles, described as 'outstanding', could cost in the region of £20m, and it would be interesting to discover whether he's keen on a move to Elland Road.
With Southampton failing to gain promotion to the Premier League, there's every chance that Charles would be interested in making the step up.
Leeds are set to face competition to secure his signature, with Manchester United reportedly keen on the Northern Ireland international.
Fans certainly shouldn't be turning their nose up at signing players from the second tier of England.
There are many examples where clubs have bought players from the Championship on the cheap, and they've developed into some of the best players in the Premier League and even in the world.
Crystal Palace are prime examples of scouting Championship talent. Adam Wharton, Michael Olise, and Eberechi Eze. Alex Scott is another example, and Leeds will be hoping they can replicate that with Charles.
Whether Charles can reach the level of the aforementioned players remains to be seen, but there's no doubt it would be a shrewd signing for the Yorkshire club.
