South Africa and Mexico will play the first game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on 11 June in a repeat of the 2010 World Cup opener that was held in South Africa.
The two teams have not played each other since the 2010 World Cup opener, and South Africa will enter the game full of confidence.
Bafana Bafana will return to the grand stage for the first time since 2010, while it is the first time since 2002 that they qualified for the tournament, and excitement is growing among players and fans.
According to Mexican publication Soyfutbol, South African defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi reportedly issued a warning that El Tri should not underestimate his team.
"Mexico should know it won't be an easy match," the 20-year-old reportedly said in an interview with Central Fox. "It's going to be a tough and challenging game," he added.
The Chicago Fire defender admitted that South Africa is ready to compete at the highest level once again and promised a battle on the field as they look to reach the knockout phase for the first time in World Cup history.
"We're not just playing to participate," the ex-Orlando Pirates man added.
