Hellas Verona have officially announced that Marco Baroni has returned as head coach as the club look to earn promotion back to Serie A at the first time of asking in 2026-27.
Baroni is back at Verona for a third stint, having spent three years with the Gialloblu towards the end of his playing career, returning in the position of head coach for the 2023-24 season.
The Tuscan-born tactician led Verona to a 13th-place finish in Serie A in 2023-24, the club’s highest finish across the last four seasons, before joining Lazio in 2024-25 and then Torino in 2025-26.
He will be tasked with steering Verona back to Serie A at the first time of asking following the team’s 19th-place finish in the top flight last term.
Verona have confirmed that Baroni has signed a two-year contract with an option for an additional 12 months, tying him to the club until the summer of 2028, potentially 2029. He will officially begin work in his new role on July 1.
“Hellas Verona FC is pleased to announce the appointment of Marco Baroni as the new head coach of the first team, effective from July 1. Baroni has signed a contract with the club until June 30, 2028 with an option to extend for a further season until 2029,” read a statement on the Verona website.
“Born in Florence on September 11, 1963, Baroni returns to the Gialloblu dugout following his spell in charge during the 2023-24 season, which ended with the team securing Serie A survival with a 13th-place finish in the league table. Earlier in his career, he was also part of Verona’s coaching staff in the 2002-03 season, serving as an assistant coach under Alberto Malesani.
“His connection with Hellas Verona began as a player: He wore the Gialloblu shirt from 1995 to 1998, making 93 appearances and scoring nine goals across Serie A, Serie B and the Coppa Italia.
“During his managerial career, he has achieved two promotions to Serie A, leading Benevento to the top flight in 2016/17 and Lecce in 2021/22. He has also successfully secured Serie A survival with both Lecce and Hellas Verona.
“Hellas Verona FC warmly welcomes Coach Marco Baroni and all members of his staff back to the Club and wishes them every success in their work.”
