Championship club Portsmouth have identified Nigerian defensive midfielder Gibson Yah as a potential summer addition as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
Born in the Netherlands, Yah came through the renowned Ajax academy, spending eight years with the club before progressing through the youth ranks and making his professional debut for Jong Ajax in a Keuken Kampioen Divisie fixture against TOP Oss in January 2021.
According to Football Insider, Portsmouth are now in advanced discussions over a potential move for the Super Eagles-eligible midfielder on a free transfer.
Yah's current club, FC Volendam, were keen to keep hold of the talented midfielder, but the player is exploring new opportunities following the club's relegation from the Eredivisie last season.
The 22-year-old joined Volendam in 2025 after spells with the youth teams of DVC Buiksloot, Ajax Amsterdam and Utrecht, signing a two-year deal running until June 30, 2027, with an option for an additional season.
However, his availability as a free agent suggests that his contract may have contained a relegation clause or that both parties reached an agreement to terminate the deal by mutual consent.
Portsmouth will compete in the EFL Championship for a third consecutive season after securing an 18th-place finish in England's second tier last term.
Yah remains eligible to play for the Super Eagles despite previously representing the youth team of the Netherlands.
