Premier League club 'ready' Tyrique George offer as Everton move hangs in the balance
Premier League clubs are preparing to pounce if Everton fail to agree a deal to sign Chelsea loanee Tyrique George permanently.
George struggled for minutes in the first half of the campaign at Chelsea and was sent out on loan to Everton by Liam Rosenior on Deadline Day in February.
David Moyes agreed to sign the 20-year-old as cover for the injured Jack Grealish, but he failed to make an impact similar to that of the Man City loanee.
George did not register any goal contributions in his 11 Toffees appearances, with the club now uncertain over activating their £22million option to buy clause this summer.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Chelsea should have no issues moving him on if negotiations with Everton break down, as several top-flight clubs are keen on George.
His option-to-buy clause expires on 30 June, but the Toffees would rather pay a lesser fee to sign him as it stands.
Chelsea could block a permanent Everton move if they feel like another Premier League or overseas side would be willing to stump up a bigger fee.
Football Insider's sources have revealed that George does not have a future at Chelsea following Xabi Alonso's arrival, so a sale is clearly their preferred option this summer.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "If Everton decide not to take up the option to sign him on a permanent basis, there'll be other Premier League clubs who will look at him.
"Previously, there has been interest from overseas teams in George as well, so I'm sure they will also be ready to make a move for the winger if he does end up leaving, and with Chelsea probably looking to balance the books and trim down their squad, that's a big likelihood."
Moyes did not hand George the opportunities that many expected him to, with just one start afforded to the England youth star in his four-month loan spell.
Despite his struggles, Moyes did make it clear that he rates the 20-year-old after he was their brightest performer in a bleak final day loss to Spurs.
He said: "We like Tyrique… We’ve enjoyed having Tyrique here - he’s been an excellent boy and his work-rate and everything has been excellent, so we’re happy with him."
