Ahead of their home leg of the CAF Champions League final, Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Nuno Santos has revealed one of the 'main reasons' for joining the club, where he has fitted in like a glove.

Sundowns battle Moroccan side AS FAR Rabat at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday, with the second leg taking place seven days later.

The continental title has eluded them since 2016, and the closest they have come to winning it again was last season, where Pyramids FC of Egypt beat them in the final.

Key to their continental ambitions has been Santos, who has contributed three goals and five assists in all competitions this season having joined from Portuguese side Vitoria SC for a reported fee of around R20 million.

For some, the move was somewhat of a step back for a player already playing in a top league in Europe.

Santos has now revealed what one of the contributing factors to his decision was.

"It feels very good. That was one of the main reasons for me to come to Mamelodi Sundowns, to win the Champions League. Being in the final is part of that process, so it's very good," said the skilful star at the club's media open day on Thursday.

"It's very competitive. We have played in four or five different countries, and every game is different.

"Every opponent has its own style of play, but at the same time, it makes us grow. It's a competition that is very good for the players, and hopefully we can get it this year."
