Rangers will be perfect next destination for Lewis Ferguson, transfer more likely than ever

Rangers will surely be confident about reuniting Lewis Ferguson and Derek McInnes in the ongoing transfer window.

The Gers have made some surprising moves in recent weeks, first taking Lawrence Shankland from Hearts and then continuing their raid at Tynecastle Park for Danny Rohl's replacement.

Andrew Cavenagh has walked the walk at the Light Blues as he continued to showcase his ambition of building a title-winning side in G51.

With McInnes now at the helm at Ibrox, a transfer for Ferguson could be more likely than ever, as he may be tempted to finally make the move to the Govan side to play under the manager who brought the best out of him at Aberdeen.

The Scotland international has struggled for game time at Bologna after picking up some gruelling injuries over the last few years.

It wouldn't be surprising to see the 26-year-old look for a move away from Italy this summer and the Glaswegian outfit would undoubtedly be the best place for him.

McInnes could have a major rebuild on his hands at the Gers, with James Tavernier leaving and the likes of Nicolas Raskin also staring at the exit door.

The Belgium international's sale wouldn't come as a surprise at Ibrox as he continues to shine for his national side at the 2026 World Cup.

Sources told Football Insider in April that Raskin was expected to be in demand at Ibrox after the 2025-26 campaign, with the Light Blues anticipating plenty of interest in him.

McInnes may need a box-to-box midfielder soon at the Govan side and there's arguably no better option than Ferguson to bolster the midfield with his aggressive, robust and disciplined style of play.

If Rangers end up signing Ferguson in the coming weeks, there will be no better option than the Scottish midfielder to be their next captain.

After Tavernier's departure, McInnes is tasked with picking the one player capable of leading the Glaswegian outfit on the pitch, and while Raskin's name could potentially be in contention, his future remains uncertain.

Shankland was Hearts' captain under the former Kilmarnock boss, but it remains to be seen who the 54-year-old believes is right for the job at Ibrox.
