Massimiliano Allegri has identified Bayer Leverkusen left wing-back Alex Grimaldo as a priority transfer target for Milan this summer, with the Spanish international understood to have been specifically requested by the coach during meetings with the club’s hierarchy.

According to journalist Luca Cohen, via MilanNews24, Allegri views Grimaldo as the ideal profile to strengthen Milan’s left flank, a position that has been a persistent weakness throughout the campaign following Theo Hernandez’s departure to Al-Hilal last summer.

The 30-year-old offers technical quality, significant European experience and the ability to contribute meaningfully in the final third, ticking several of the boxes Allegri has outlined as non-negotiable in his summer recruitment demands.

Any approach for the Spaniard is, however, entirely dependent on the Rossoneri qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

The club head into the final day of the season still needing a result, and without European football of that level, the financial and sporting case for a move of this magnitude becomes considerably harder to make.

Should Allegri’s side secure their top-four place, the club are expected to open initial conversations with Leverkusen to establish the economic viability of the operation.

Grimaldo has been one of the most consistently impressive wing-backs in European football since joining the German club, and his profile would represent a significant upgrade on what Milan currently have available on the left side of defence.
