Marco Palestra seems to be heading for Chelsea with a fee of €60m from Atalanta, but it’s reported the Premier League side first tried to get Wesley from Roma.
It had looked as if Inter were down to the details with Palestra this evening, as Atalanta were prepared to accept the €45m plus €5m offer, while the player was presented with personal terms worth €2.5m per season.
However, Chelsea suddenly dived in with a proposal of €55m plus €5m in add-ons, and doubled the wages to the player, giving him somewhere between €5m and €6m per year over five years.
According to Fabrizio Romano, new Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso was looking to Serie A in general for reinforcements on the wings.
He had initially requested Wesley, who had to pull out of the Brazil squad at the 2026 World Cup due to an injury in a friendly match.
Roma only bought Wesley from Flamengo last year for €25m plus €5m in add-ons, and had no intention of letting him leave already, especially after qualifying for the Champions League.
