Reports in Italy indicate that Roma and Milan could be set to battle it out for the services of both Gianluca Scamacca from Atalanta and Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United once the summer transfer window gets underway.

Both Roma and Milan are looking to reshape their attacking departments in the summer transfer window. Gian Piero Gasperini found success with Donyell Malen in the second half of the season but is in need of more options, particularly if the Giallorossi return to the Champions League in 2026-27.

Massimiliano Allegri prefers a two-man strike partnership, but has constantly chopped and changed between Christian Pulisic, Rafael Leao, Christpoher Nkunku, Santiago Gimenez and Niclas Fullkrug this season and could seek to rebuild the department this summer.

Tuttosport and Calciomercato.com report that both sides could make offers for Atalanta’s Scamacca this summer. The 22-time Italy international will be into the final year of his contract in 2026-27, but Atalanta are said to be seeking a fee in the region of €30m for his services, despite the fact that they paid €28m to sign him from West Ham in 2023.

Both Roma and Milan have previously expressed an interest in signing former Bologna forward Zirkzee from Manchester United, and could reignite their interest this coming transfer window.

There have been claims that Manchester United are keen on the idea of signing Rafael Leao from Milan this summer, and Friday’s report suggests that Milan could potentially seek to involve Zirkzee in a player-plus-cash deal. Roma remain interested too.

Other strikers linked with a potential summer move to Milan include Juventus’s Dusan Vlahovic and Tottenham loanee Randal Kolo Muani, while for Roma, the list includes RB Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa, West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville, Porto’s Pepe and Marseille’s Mason Greenwood.
