West Ham United have been backed to take the relegation battle to the wire on the final day of the season.

That is the view of former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football Insider, who believes his former club could do West Ham a favour against Tottenham.

Spurs hold a two-point advantage over West Ham heading into the final day, but the north London club know that defeat will allow their rivals to secure safety with a win over Leeds.

West Ham head into their clash against Leeds at the London Stadium having lost their last three matches, but Spurs haven’t won a league game at home since December.

Relegation to the Championship would be financially disastrous for West Ham and Spurs, whilst the latter have not played in the second tier since 1978.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo deserves credit for taking the relegation battle to the final day.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks West Ham were “unlucky” last time out at Newcastle, and Spurs may “freeze” under the pressure against Everton.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “This is one that I don’t think is necessarily finished.

“Everton could do something away at Spurs, and if West Ham can do something against Leeds, which is possible, then this could go right down to the wire. So it’s not finished yet, and I’ve got to give Nuno his credit that he has got the squad playing well until this last game.

“Even then, West Ham were a little bit unlucky in the way that the sequence of goals went in [vs Newcastle]. They didn’t really start playing until they got the first goal against them.

“Spurs at home may just freeze in front of that big crowd. So it’s not done yet by any means.”

Both West Ham and Spurs know that relegation to the Championship would mean they would have to sell many of their star players in the summer transfer window.

The financial situation at West Ham, where they posted a loss of £104million in their 2024-25 financial accounts, means they urgently need to raise money from sales this summer.

Former Manchester City financial advisor Stefan Borson told Football Insider that West Ham need to raise £100m if they suffer relegation on the final day.

Crysencio Summerville, Mateus Fernandes and Jarrod Bowen are just a trio of stars expected to leave the London Stadium if the club are relegated, and all three have plenty of interest from rivals in their signatures.
