Portugal will parade one of the strongest squads in world football when they face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in a blockbuster international friendly in Leiria, with several world-class stars expected to test Eric Chelle’s side ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo remains Portugal’s biggest attacking weapon despite turning 41 earlier this year.

The Al Nassr forward continues to impress for the national team with his movement, finishing and leadership qualities.

The former Real Madrid and Manchester United star has scored 143 goals for Portugal and remains one of the most feared forwards in international football.

Bruno Fernandes is another player Nigeria must watch closely. The Manchester United midfielder is regarded as the creative force in Portugal’s midfield due to his vision, passing range and eye for goal.

Fernandes has consistently delivered goals and assists for club and country, making him one of the most dangerous playmakers in Europe.

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Vitinha has also become one of Portugal’s most important players. The technically gifted midfielder controls the tempo of matches with his intelligent passing and composure on the ball.

Vitinha’s influence in midfield could prove decisive if Nigeria fail to close down spaces quickly.

Goalkeeper Diogo Costa completes the list of stars the Super Eagles must contain tonight. The Porto goalkeeper has established himself as Portugal’s first-choice shot-stopper thanks to his quick reflexes, calmness under pressure and penalty-saving ability.

Costa’s presence gives Portugal extra confidence at the back.

With Portugal regarded as one of the favourites for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the friendly against Nigeria is expected to provide a major test for Eric Chelle’s side against one of Europe’s strongest national teams.
