Things have changed dramatically at Old Trafford since Carrick was appointed on an interim basis following the departure of Ruben Amorim.
The former midfielder guided the Red Devils to a third-place finish in the Premier League, securing UEFA Champions League football for the 2026/27 campaign and ultimately earning the managerial role on a permanent basis.
As Manchester United gear up for the new season, former Red Devils attacker Giuseppe Rossi has praised the club's decision to place their faith in Carrick.
"I'm super happy for Carrick and his staff. I think they've done a brilliant job this year," Rossi said during an interview with Ozoon, per GOAL.
"Truthfully, I don't know why they waited that long, but I'm happy that the right decision was made. Having somebody who understands the culture and isn't going to come around to change everything just for the sake of it is key.
"I think Manchester United is built on a specific way of doing things, a culture established by Sir Alex Ferguson, and Michael understands that."
Rossi went on to suggest that Carrick's coaching staff could benefit from the addition of another Manchester United legend, namely Rooney.
"His approach seems very similar; I call that a formula for success. It would be great to see other former names on the coaching staff. Rooney would be interesting.
"I know they had a great friendship and time together. But yeah, just imagine if Wazza did come back as an assistant, that would be pretty crazy. Fans would love it."
While Rooney remains one of Manchester United's greatest-ever players, his managerial journey has yet to reach similar heights.
The 40-year-old's first role came at Derby County, where he was tasked with navigating a difficult period marked by financial turmoil and a 21-point deduction.
He later moved to Major League Soccer side D.C. United but was unable to guide the club into the play-offs.
What followed was a brief and challenging spell at Birmingham City, lasting just 83 days, before his most recent stint with Plymouth Argyle came to an end when he was dismissed on New Year's Eve in 2024.

Despite those setbacks, Rossi believes a return to Old Trafford in a coaching capacity could be an exciting prospect as Carrick looks to build on an impressive first season in charge.
