Freedom of Movement has stepped onto the football-inspired sneaker scene with the launch of its first-ever football lifestyle silhouette, the "FOM Diski" — a release that blends trendy sneaker culture and South African football culture into one sleek streetwear statement.

The Stellenbosch-founded leather goods and lifestyle label unveiled the new sneaker today as part of its Winter '26 collection, tapping football icons and local personalities to front the campaign.

Leading the rollout are Bafana Bafana legend Siyabonga Nomvethe and Banyana Banyana stalwart Refiloe Jane, alongside Leandra Smeda and legendary PSL commentator Baba Mthethwa.

Inspired by the growing crossover between football culture and fashion, the FOM Diski sneaker adopts a clean low-cut silhouette crafted from leather and suede, arriving in Sapphire Blue, Dark Chocolate Brown and Tofu colourways.

The design enters a global trend currently dominated by football-inspired sneakers such as the adidas Samba, adidas SL72, ASICS Mexico 66, Nike Total 90 and PUMA Palermo, silhouettes that have become staples in both streetwear and football fashion circles worldwide.

Rather than leaning into aggressive performance aesthetics, FOM's latest offering embraces understated luxury and everyday versatility, aligning with the broader rise of football-core fashion as the sport's cultural relevance increasingly rivals basketball's influence in sneaker culture.

The campaign itself leans heavily into South African football identity and township flair, with Baba Mthethwa narrating visuals featuring freestyle footballers, influencers and local talents, including freestyler Jabu Mdaka, and JVW FC's Sakhiwo Mnomiya and Nokwazi Mnomiya showcasing tricks and close control while styled in the brand's latest apparel.

With both the men's and women's versions retailing at just over R2,400, the FOM Diski marks a bold expansion for the South African label, one that firmly places local football culture at the centre of contemporary fashion conversations.
