Semenyo Fires England Warning: It’s Time For The World To Know Ghana
Antoine Semenyo insists Ghana are at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to compete, not participate, as the Black Stars prepare for a high-stakes Group L clash against England, with Carlos Queiroz also sending a strong message ahead of the encounter.
Manchester City star Antoine Semenyo has made it clear that Ghana are at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to compete, not merely make up the numbers, as the Black Stars prepare for a massive test against England.

The West African giants got their campaign off to the perfect start with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama last week.
Their next assignment, however, is a blockbuster clash against a star-studded England side that also opened their tournament with three points after defeating Croatia 4-2.
While the Three Lions are regarded by many as favourites heading into the encounter, Semenyo insists Ghana have arrived at the global showpiece with far greater ambitions than simply participating.
“We are not going to the World Cup to participate; we are going to compete. The world knows England. Now it’s time for the world to know Ghana,” he said, according to Pan Africa Football.
Despite his confidence, the forward acknowledged the magnitude of the task awaiting Otto Addo's men.
“It’s going to be a tough game. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. We want to win, but we know it is not going to be easy.”
With both sides sitting on three points, the result could go a long way towards determining who finishes top of Group L and secures a more favourable route in the knockout stages.
Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz echoed Semenyo's fighting spirit and suggested that matches against elite nations often bring out the best in players.
“It's another game. All games are different, it's a different team on the pitch and a different environment,” Queiroz said, according to CGTN.
“The reputations and prestige of results in the past are significant when they are written in the press, but they cannot win games. Memories don't win games, so tomorrow will be another story.”
The Portuguese tactician also explained why facing one of world football's heavyweights can sometimes be easier from a motivational standpoint.

The former Manchester United assistant coach believes his players will need to channel their excitement in the right way and remain united throughout the contest.
“Everybody is fully switched on, and everybody wants to perform well,” Queiroz said.
“What we have to do in this type of game is to try and moderate the enthusiasm, but mainly we need to work together. This is the most important thing tomorrow. Whatever happens, we need to stick together and fight together over 90 full minutes.”
He then delivered a memorable rallying cry ahead of the showdown.
“We know they have the three lions on their shirt, but we come from Ghana and have 33 million lions to fight for this game.”
