Arne Slot's future at the Reds has been a topic of discussion throughout the 2025/26 season after Liverpool failed to mount a strong title defence.

Slot led the Reds to a 20th English league title in his first season and outlined his ambitions for the following season after spending £450 million (R10 billion) on the likes of Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike.

Performances this season have flattered to deceive the Anfield faithful, as the Reds are scrambling to get into next season's UEFA Champions League.

According to ESPN, Slot was speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of the Friday night game against Champions League-chasers, Aston Villa, where he revealed he was confident that he would be in the Anfield dugout next season.

"I don't think I am deciding that alone by myself, but I have every reason to believe I am the Liverpool manager next season," Slot explained.

"First of all, I am contracted to this club, and second of all, from all the talks we are having. That is my take on it," he added.

The 47-year-old admitted this season has been a disappointing one compared to last season, and said it has become the norm to receive criticism when a club has a dip in performances.

"But if you don't have the best season, especially if you compare it with last season, if you compare it with other seasons, you might have a different debate - but if you compare it with last season, this has definitely not been a great season," he said.

"I think the world has gone to [the point where] if a manager or a club doesn't have their best season, there is always a debate about that, it is not only Liverpool, it is all around the world," he said.

"That is the new reality in football. It is not up to me to judge the people who judge me; they have every right to have their opinion, and in these modern times, everyone can share their opinion as well," he added.
