Sources: Oliver Glasner sets sights on signing Crystal Palace star as 'talks' advance over deal
Oliver Glasner will consider a move to sign Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta if he lands the manager's job at AC Milan, sources have told Football Insider.
Glasner is believed to be in talks with the Rossoneri over the vacant position after leaving South London following the expiry of his contract at Selhurst Park.
The Austrian brought plenty of success in two years at Palace, leading them to victories in the FA Cup, Community Shield, and bowing out with the Conference League.
Now, as I revaeled on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Glasner could reunite with one of his Crystal Palace stars with Mateta on his radar.
The France international, who has been named in Didier Deschamps' World Cup squad, came close to joining Milan before his mid-seaon move fell through.
Much of his goalscoring success at Selhurst Park came after Glasner's arrival, and the opportunity to reignite his move to Italy under his former boss could be perfect.
Football Insider exclusively revealed AC Milan's interest in signing Mateta in November, before they made a move to sign him late in the January transfer window.
A knee injury led to the Italian giants walking away from the move after his medical, but to Glasner and Palace's benefit as he scored the Conference League-winning goal.
Should Glasner be appointed as the next AC Milan manager, there is now every chance he could revisit Palace for an immediate reunion with the striker.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "There's been a lot of talk about Jean Philippe Meteta, because his future at Palace is uncertain at the moment.
"There is a bit of an expectation at Selhurst Park that he is going to move on this summer, after his move fell through in January.
"There has been talk that he potenitally could link up with Oliver Glasner again if he goes and lands AC Milan job, because he has been in talks over that position.
"It would make a lot of sense for him, because he came close to joining Milan mid-way through the season, and he's been a massive success under Glasner at Palace."
Mateta has established himself as a fans' favourite at Selhurst Park, with his personality winning over many doubters alongside his goalscoring exploits.
After he scored the winning goal to secure Palace their first ever European trophy, there have been suggestions efforts could be made to stop him leaving Selhurst Park.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Palace are keen for Mateta to stick around and could renew efforts to extend his contract.
The Frenchman's current deal is set to expire in 2027, and barring a surprise twist, Palace are hopeful of cashing in rather than losing him on a free transfer.
There is still a small change he could remain at Selhurst Park, but if Milan make a move again, especially with Glasner's appeal, it is unlikely he will stick around.
