Today in Sport - Things You May Have Missed
Social media snippets from around the world of sport.
The sporting world never stops turning. At any point of the day or night, there's always something noteworthy taking place. Whether it's a crazy knockout, buzzer-beating basket, game-winning touchdown, last-minute goal or any other aspect of sporting drama or debate, it's tough for anyone to keep up with absolutely everything that occurs.
However, it's often the small details which make sport so absorbing to follow. With that in mind, GIVEMESPORT have created this blog, dedicated to bringing you the smaller, more unique and more curious stories from around the world that you may have missed. It could be football, tennis, Formula 1, UFC, Boxing, WWE, Basketball, NFL or any other sporting pastime; if it's related to sport and worth knowing about, you'll probably find it here!
YouTuber IShowSpeed was involved in a comical interaction with football legend Ronaldo Nazario during Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Morocco on Saturday night.
Speed, who had his microphone taken away by Zlatan Ibrahimovic the previous night after claiming Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal will win this summer’s World Cup (see the update underneath this one for more), had his impressive physique questioned by the Brazil legend.
“It’s only training this?” Ronaldo said to Speed while scanning the YouTube star’s torso. “Nah, it’s not natural. Come on. Come on, mate.”
When Speed insisted it was all natural, R9 added: “We can do a blood test?”
Speed replied: “I’m natural, I don’t take anything! Yes, we can do a blood test.” Watch the exchange in full below:
Zlatan Ibrahimovic took away IShowSpeed’s microphone and kicked him off FOX Sport’s live TV broadcast after the YouTuber named the team he believes will win the 2026 World Cup.
Speed, who has over 55 million followers on YouTube alone, was at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, to watch the United States secure an emphatic 4-1 win over Paraguay in their opening Group D match.
Speed met Zlatan and Thierry Henry, who are both working as pundits for FOX Sports at this summer’s showpiece international tournament.
Zlatan asked the YouTuber: “Who do you think is winning the World Cup?”
Speed replied: “Portugal. Ronaldo’s winning the World Cup.”
Zlatan immediately took away Speed’s mic before ushering him away.
“Watch Ronaldo win,” Speed said as he left the stage. “I promise you.” Watch the clip below:
One of the most interesting things about the United States, Canada and Mexico hosting the 2026 World Cup will be the cultural differences. The divide between the US and Britain was very apparent during Fox Sports coverage of the tournament this week.
Indeed, American pundit Alexi Lalas was perhaps not quite sure what the term meant as he used a rather rude phrase to describe James Corden. Indeed, he called the English presenter - who is the host of another World Cup show on Fox this summer - a 'full kit w*****.'
“Can we talk about James Corden for a second?” presenter Rebecca Lowe had asked. Lalas then replied, “What do you guys call them? A ... full kit w*****, right?”
His comment left Loweand co-hosts Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic stunned. Lowe joked, “Okay, lucky we’re on American TV. Because the W-word on British TV [is not good].”
The term is British slang used in football to mock adults who wears the complete kit, including the jersey, shorts, and socks, when they aren't actually playing a match. The comment was made about Corden as he appeared in a full USMNT training kit in the promo videos for his new show.
South Korea came from behind to beat Czechia 2-1 in the World Cup on Thursday evening. Czechia took the lead just before the hour mark through Ladislav Krejčí.
But South Korea battled back and won the match courtesy of goals from Hwang In-beom and Oh Hyeon-gyu.
Hwang's goal was something special. The Feyenoord midfielder scored one of the coldest goals we'll see at this year's World Cup as he bamboozled a defender and the opposition goalkeeper before chipping the ball into the net.
Football fans on Reddit gushed over the goal. One fan said:"That composure and skill yet simplicity reminds me of Messi. Thats how good this goal is." Another commented: "That was DIRTY", while a third wrote: "Legitimate contender for goal of the tournament already."
Former Manchester United and Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Bosnich was taken to hospital after suffering a freak injury while facing a penalty.
The Australian took part in a celebrity penalty shootout as part of a promotional event ahead of the World Cup. But it ended in disaster for the 54-year-old while saving a penalty taken by AFL chief Gillon McLachlan. Bosnich kept McLachlan's spot-kick out but was left in agony after suffering a leg injury.
