Former interim UFC Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier has broken his silence after being arrested on Sunday in Georgia.

'The Diamond' last competed inside the Octagon at UFC 318 last July when he lost to Max Holloway in a clash for the symbolic 'BMF' title. After the fight, the Louisiana native laid down his gloves in the centre of the cage, indicating that he was retired from active competition.

Poirier has frequently teased a possible return for a fourth fight with Irish superstar Conor McGregor. However, the 37-year-old has now hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Per a report from TMZ, the much-loved fighter, who earned 15 performance bonuses in his 32 UFC fights, was arrested on Sunday evening for public drunkness.

Public drunkenness can lead to up to one year in prison and/or fines up to $1000 if convicted, in the state of Georgia.

Details of Poirier's brush with the law quickly began to circulate on social media and it didn't take the fighter long to address the incident in a seven-word post on his Instagram story.

"Love you all. I'm working on myself," he insisted.
